Android is hit, there is not doubts and eventually will continue is meteoric ascension taking marketshare from Nokia, Rim and the iPhone, why not, It’s been embraced by the bigger mobile phone vendors that have been pushing for a real alternative to the iPhone, some of them have failed to gain traction using Windows Mobile or their respective mobile OS.

Android has been extended to almost any mobile brands, except for RIM, Nokia and Apple and ported to tablets or any other mobile device in a desperated attempt to fend off the already popular iPad, but while Android may enjoys strong sales for phone makers, none of them individually have garnered the iPhone mass appeal with their devices, it’s well notice that Android marketshare is actually bigger than iOS if We combine sales from all vendors and it will continue to grow at the iPhone expense.

But fragmentation and too many iterations of the same OS will make more difficult for end users to get the better and more competitive phone based on the latest hardware and the latest OS version, because every vendor is adding a layer on top of Android making different flavors of the same OS, you won’t be able to buy or install in your HTC Android based phone the Samsung layer implementation or the Motorola making the whole situation impossible to avoid something that is being a pain in the ass for users having to wait months to get the latest version of Android in their outdated mobile phones while others may have it in weeks.

The Android Store is having a surge too, more and more developers are creating rich applications for the platform in part due to the almost ZERO approval limitations, but the only problem: profit, the Android Market Store represents a small fraction compared with the Apple App Store; some are avoiding the Android Market Store altogether citing too much screen sizes, models and versions of mobile phone, something that difficult the easy mass adaptation even in the same OS, there’s not truely Create once Publish Everywhere. And while you may not develop for the first iPhone using tools designed for the latest version, at least, in iOS you can still guarantee that it will work in almost all iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad, except for the first generation of those devices.

Where are We going?
The whole Android situation looks everyday as a chapter from the Mac vs PC, where Microsoft, Dell, HP, Gateway and others controlled the computer business letting a small space for macs; a war that Apple decided not to fight publicly, but that ended up showing how Microsoft and partners negleted to bring innovation to the platform, an opportunity Apple has taken completely and it seems that it won’t give it back to Microsoft any time soon.

And if the introduction and instantly dismissal of the Kin One and Two and the abandonment of the Playforsure for a concentrated Zune-based strategy is a proof of innovation from Redmond, then shareholders and partners are entitled to jump as soon as possible to any other Mobile OS supplier or like HP, buy its own OS to guarantee, at least, a decent and more robust mobile strategy.

Android resembles Windows in many areas, it comes with a lot of unremovable applications (crapware) that vary from vendor to vendor, recent indications of malware and trojan horses running on the platform make us believe that Android is in part an extension of Windows when it’s not and Google enforcing the Kill Switch to remove an bad application from users phones, popularity and openness sometimes bring more headaches than happy days.

Who is winning the OS War?
It’s not about winning or losing, it is about profit, one thing is to sell a godzillion of mobile phone (like Nokia, Samsung, Rim…) and the other is to profit from them (like Apple) and while you may see a lot of Android based mobile devices everywhere when it comes to profit Apple is the one that is taking the tasty piece of the market and this is the same situation on the PC business, while Dell sells all the computers in the world, Apple is the one that is getting a real profit from selling macs, a hard but cruel true.

Android will be bigger and better each day, this is guaranteed, but Apple’s iOS is evolving, at its own pace, Apple has its own agenda and there’s not need to rush something that is not ready for primetime, sorry if some fanboys believe that because of Android success Apple will have to accelerate its pace to avoid losing market, but this is the interesting part, Android-based phones are being sold by Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T and Sprint while the iPhone is only available on AT&T and it’s easy to see the reason for Android quick adoption, but the iPhone will be available on more carriers in the USA and eventually this will help to get a bigger market and then We can compare how the iPhone sold in the same carriers is doing against the Android-based OS.

For much, Android-based phones are a heaven sent opportunity (ask Motorola), not everybody needs an iPhone or an ultra super smartphone nor a Nokia ultra cheap phone, but the market is growing faster and with fragmentation and small profit on the Android market Apple will be the only one enjoying the frustrations of those that believed that Android like Windows is a better alternative to the iPhone’s iOS.

Cinema Display and the new arrival of a new serie of intelligent displays with more features and less power consumption, plus the impending upgrade of the AppleTV to something usable, what We really believe Apple needs to end the Living room war against Microsoft is a Television OS.

An OS that give you more control of your watching experience, animation between channels, program bookmarks, review sharing, recommendation and On Demand information (weather, transit, wall street) via widgets. Ok, I know that there are channels that provide that kind of information, but you must spend minutes surfing for them and it is not possible to have this information instantly, a widget system can solve it.

What we need is a TV with brain, hard disc, wireless transmission, automatic download of your favorite Youtube clips, a TV that understands how we interact with information and keeps learning about our habits, a TV that knows when there is nobody watching it and automatically dimm itsel.

A combination of IPTV+Mac OS X+Coverflow, something unique, I know that this kind of monster needs dedication, hardware and software and thousand of man/hours, but Apple has the ability to do marvel, the Mac, the ipod, the iphone and whatever is in the pipeline shows us that when Steve puts his heart on something, it works.

Apple can even get support for AT&T digital Television, broadcast or create an iTunes TV Channel that promotes the latest music, video or events on iTunes or better a direct link to Youtube or any other video website.

Imagine a 30? Apple designed LCD TV with remote ipod touch and iphone connection, wireless internet connection, Coverflow for channel surfing, W for Widget with ready to use information, Parental control, Google Map, automatic Channel bookmark based on your previous selection of tags or topics, iphoto and imovie ready (wirelessly), automatic computer syncing, Channel and program Reviews, and Music tagging for later download on itunes.

A networked TV that can help us monitor what our children watch and when, that share wirelessly in multiple media what is being shown on TV, imagine having a Server based TV that recharge your favorites programs, movies and news to your ipod or iphone.

Apple is entitled to start the next TV Revolution, today is not about content, it is how you show the content. Tivo and Sony represent big challenges to Apple, they haven’t reached the panacea of their hardware evolution and Apple with its Mighty Touch of sensibility and detail can excel them in 2 more years or less.

Imagine a TV interface based on Coverflow, where you can change your channels moving your fingers in your remote control trap pad, where you can freeze, transmit and record your favorite programs. Where if you listen a song in any commercial, the information about this song is automatically stored in a small area of your screen, where you can link from an ad to a web page just touching a button and where you just can rate, preview and recommend programs as we do in digg.com and others social sites. This is the television we deserve right now, Tivo has done a nice job, but there is nothing new in its interface, Moxi brings a more interesting interface, but it is doomed if they can’t put it inside a TV, not just a set top box.

What we need is a TV with brain, hard disc, wireless transmission, automatic download of your favorite Youtube clips, a TV that understands how we interact with information and keeps learning about our habits, a TV that knows when there is nobody watching it and automatically dimm itsel.

And I know that Apple can transform our TV in something more compelling, in the end HDTV, LCD and new technologies only help you see a clearer picture, they don’t help you enjoy your TV.

Let’s wait for Apple TV evolution hoping that somebody in Apple is being thinking about the next Big Thing for this new Hobby called Apple TV.”

The recent PatentGate started when Apple filed for a Travel iPhone App and used the FutureTap Where top? screenshot as a description of its Application has now ended in a harmoniously way, Apple responded to FutureTap and made the aclaration that the Screenshot is just illustrative and that the Where To? interface is not part of the patent claim, so there’s nothing to fear about.

when looking through the claims 1-21, there’s no evidence of anything close to Where To?‘s functionality. Our patent attorney confirmed this. The claims of this patent application are actually pretty narrow with the core invention being a method that detects the arrival of a traveler based on the itinerary and the fact that the device was turned off and turned back on again, and then sending out some sort of arrival notification.

In the end the whole Patent-Confusion wasn’t all that bad, FutureTap profited from the situation as commented by Ortwin Gent when asked about any monetary gain from the situation:

Yes, A strange study by the dating site OKCupid.com concluded that people with iPhones tend to have more sexual relations compared with others using Blackberry or Android, nothing bad for Apple and something that could accelerate the mass adoption of the iPhone all over the world and a real bad thing for Pfizer’s Viagra.

While I don’t believe that this is for real, if true it will be a disaster for Blackberry and Android users with outdated versions of their softwares or underpower devices.

Expect for Pfizer to bundle Viagra with any new Android or Blackberry phone in order to stop bleeding market share to the iPhone.

Microsoft blinded some partners and “helped” them to launch Origami or UMPC (Ultra Mobile PC) based devices, OQO, Samsung and others wasted million of dollars designing for a platform that wasn’t meant to be succesful, the rest of the story is that the UMPC or Origami didn’t fold well and everybody jumped ship.

To make things look more pathetics, Apple announced the iPad, a tablet-like device that will change the world [tablets have been out for years, I mean years] something that forced Microsoft to launch the Courier, a prototype tablet that will eat iPads, 2 screens, foldable (origami-style), touch and stylus, a device crafted for those that really need more than a clumsy iPad… hahahahaha, but the Courier wasn’t a real product, it was just a computer animation, created to defuse the iPad, so it’s NATURAL that after watching the iPad rolled out, Microsoft announced yesterday that Courier won’t ever see the light of day, it wasn’t really a new platform because it runs Windows 7 and Windows 7 wasn’t created for Tablets, ask HP about their rumored cancellation of the Windows 7 based Slate tablet, it is too big for those small tablets and it required a bigger/powerful processor that will only drain the battery.

So if you really believed that Microsoft will launch the Courier let me tell you that you are out of luck, it wasn’t even a real product or solid prototype, it was just a marketing effort to defuse the iPad, nothing more. Sorry for that, but the Courier looked to good to be true and coming from Microsoft made it look strange, but computer animation is one thing…. launching a real and innovative product is just another big thing. What really strike me is that the Courier looks like something created from Gizmodo.com, there is not pictures of the device from other sites that don’t have Gizmodo.com printed all over. Marketing or advertising and Gizmodo.com could have helped Microsoft launch the Courier into the media.

So stay tuned for the next Microsoft invention, just when Apple announced its next big thing.

I was hoping to have the Opera Mini browser on my iPhone, because it only help the platform grow or mature and it won’t ever represent a threat to Safari for mac users, because what Apple really likes is a better iPhone experience and Opera Mini is in line with that requirement, so if Safari and now Opera Mini is your favorite in the end it’s all done on the same phone, the iPhone.

Suing Apple won’t help Adobe gets Flash and will only put more pressure in this fiasco, nor a total abandon or hold off of Adobe’s applications for the mac won’t even hurt Apple the same way it would destroy Adobe balance sheet, Apple is in a more prepared position to have Adobe jump ship, Apple can buy Pixelmator or even Corel and merge them into its software line without any major problem, Apple has grown too aggressive and won’t blink to put a stop to Adobe’s intentions.

I don’t think that abandoning the mac platform as a form of retailation will help Adobe and from a business point it doesn’t make any sense to cut 30% or 40% of your profit. Mac users has lived without Adobe Framemaker, without Adobe Premiere and with a not up-to date version of Photoshop and the platform is still strong and could only get stronger if Apple decides to create its own graphic suite, don’t forget that Final Cut Pro is a single example of what Apple can achieve if it plays against Adobe, cause FCP is a result of the last time Adobe forgot about the Mac platform shutting down Premiere from the Mac, now I don’t want to see Apple’s version of Photoshop.

But, why is Adobe so sick to have Flash on the iPhone? From a user perspective I don’t know, but I would like to see Adobe putting all its energy on improving Flash on the mac, it really sucks… and I am a low level flash developer, I would Flash to run on the iPhone, but not as it’s doing on the mac right now.

Adobe has plenty of platforms to turn if Steve Jobs doesn’t change his mind (he won’t regret it), Android is growing, Symbian, WeOs, Bada, RIM OS and other linux based mobile OS that users will be more than happy to have Flash running.

Forget about the iPhone and please don’t ever forget to reduce Flash system consumption on Mac OS X, it is insane that my G5 screams like a pig when Flash is running.

The Newton was a device out of its time, it created the base for the Palm Pilot and other smaller PDAs, but didn’t have the full support from Apple itself, it was a pet project in the hand of the wrong person.

My Newton still works, it is a piece of technology that resist to die, it may be bulky but it’s durable and does what it was supposed to do by the time it reached the market, it’s a damn thing that Steve Jobs killed it completely.

This move could be seen as the start of the new mobile war between rivals, HTC is the maker of the Nexus One and other Windows Mobile phones, this only could mean that Google will thrown into this legal fight in one way or another and a stronge Stay Away message to Microsoft if it insists in defending HTC. Google isn’t named in the lawsuit and is wise to notice that there was (rumored) secret pact between Google and Apple about the multitouch implementation on the Nexus One, but things has turned sour and the gentlement pact is now dead in the water.

Implications
I really admired Apple and HTC and how they managed to launch dozens of beautifully designed phones (not the Nexus One, it is ugly) and of course I don’t want to see how smart companies like Apple and HTC and others waste time fighting apparent and useless patents, but I am not a lawyer and they have invested millions in development of those patents, so it’s totally natural that they defend them or use any given one to stop others from entering into their playground, it is BULLSHIT to believe that you can take any patent from Google, Nokia, RIM, Microsoft or HTC and run away without being suited, this is capitalism and in business you don’t let your rivals to enjoy your meal for free.

Apple is a latecomer in the smartphone business, but has changed the whole industry taking away the spotlight from Nokia, Motorola, Microsoft and others, so believe me Apple will do whatever it takes to stay in the front-front of the market with innovation, hardcore products and features-rich offers.

Apple has a right to defend and seek monetary compensation from anybody who is ripping their patents, the same way Creative had its own case against Apple and won, this is a two sided sword and sometimes it goes against Apple or in favor. Apple will have to probe that HTC is infringing on its patents and this may takes months or years, but this is business.

Now that the fight is on, Google or Motorola could be the next and if Google infringes on any Apple patent it must pays, because those are the rules or you want to try it, go and buy the Googler.com domain and run away with a similar search business using Google brand, you may end up feeling the flavors of Google fists. This is not Venezuela or Cuba that you live in a fictitious socialism, but even Cuba is hunting down those that infringe in its Cohiba cigars brand.

This is just Business 102. Innovate, pay or die.

PS: Recommendation for Apple, buy Palm or invest on them to invalidate any intent from Google to buy it first.

The Apple HDTV I would like to have will require Apple to invest (I am being totally reiterative with this) in a HDTV manufacturer or add TV tuners inside the Apple Display line to create an attractive and lucrative business, but at the same time it will be necessary to transform the iPhone OS into a full media OS to power every HDTV sold.

Apple will have to tweak the iPhone OS to run TV version of iTunes, that lets you watch, download and share your favorite media and provide live TV and DVR capabilities, Apple has tried to do some of these options with the AppleTV, but providing DVR capabilities to the AppleTV will compete with the TV Program downloads from the iTunes Store.

But doing so will force Apple to free itself from believing that providing DVR feature to the AppleTV will cannibalize iTunes sales, of course it will do, but not as dramatic as they may believe, what Apple really needs is to make better offers and selections of shows, soundtracks and media in general. The perfect combination between the iTunes actual business model and the DVR feature inside every AppleTV will only help move more devices, iPhone, iPod Touch and iPads, maybe the one reason for Apple to insist in a lower price for TV shows is to make them more attractive once the new Apple HDTV with DVR+ features is introduced, avoiding massive loss.

Apple is looking for somebody to help them extend the iPhone OS to other Devices and We all speculate that the next big thing will come from the AppleTV, I would like to have the HDTV+Media OS inside the appliance itself.

Widget vs Apps
Providing widgets will enhance the tv viewing experience with realtime traffic information, weather, pizza delivery and what could make it more important and profitable is a tagging system that lets you mark any given product or service and order it automagically from the couch, doing so will help Apple cashes an even bigger margin in products sold or recommended.

This new Media OS will have commons features like CoverFlow navigation, music and video selection, iPhone sync via wi-fi, Facebook, Twitter and other social networks that will only accelerate Apple domination of the living room being a real media hub for the iPod and the iPhone, something that Apple miserably failed to achieve with the AppleTV.

Now the problem, I would like to have a Read or Learn More label attached to every Discovery or NatGeo program in order to point my their net address and get any related information instantly, but it can be even better, every TV networks could place a readable code into small bar on the screen for iPhone, iPod Touch and now iPad to point and get the information automagically, some kind of Augmented Reality for TV information.

Maybe it’s me, but I don’t see the real reasons for all TV networks haven’t implemented something like that, it could drive million of visitors to their websites and generate more green money, something that advertisers will enjoy, a pasive stream of customers (counted in millions) learning not only about any given information on any given movie or tv show but the brands attached to those shows. I hope something not so far away is thinking about the benefits of having a direct link directly from your favorite program with info, pictures and of course a few ads.

Apple can implement it, there’s nothing from stopping them to drive tv users to iTunes for soundtracks, books or tv shows.

I would like to see Apple investing some of that money in:

1. Games
The Mac as a platform needs more original and popular games.

2. Puts AppleTV on steroids
Adds DVR features to the pet project, make it a decent media center device, add Boxee and change its color to a more gadget-like gray or black.

3. Buy Vizio or invest in Samsung HDTV business
Puts the iPhone OS inside a Vizio or Samsung HDTV with Facebook, Twitter and 140,000 more apps to transform completely the home entertainment experience.

4. Buy EMI or create a music business
Content, content, content, if the Beatles let it be.

5. Car design
With Apple keen sense of details on industrial design it’is nothing totally imposible to translate its vast experience to the automobile industry, smart, cute and streamlined cars from Apple…. a dream comes true, with its own Automobile AppStore, wireless update, Mobileme to track stolen cars and the iPhone or iPad as the dashboard.

Apple can create an iPhone-based infotainment dashboard for luxury cars that brings all kind of media (video, audio, movies, books), location-based information, weather, parking, GPS navigation and more, all the map and location information can be supplied by Placebase, a mapping company recently bought by Apple.

I have been hearing rumors about Apple and Volkswagen collaboration in this type of infosystem for its vehicles, but Apple can extend the new media OS to other Dasboard makers like Pioneer, Bose, JLB, etc.

We can’t expect to see the iPhone OS in any other devices from rivals’ devices, that won’t happen in million years, but Apple can have the iPhone OS morphed into a TV OS-Like that powers your Samsung, Panasonic or Vizio TV, Apple has been wasting time with the Apple TV and something they have learned from that endeavour. Apple has denied any interest in entering the TV market. Yeah right.

I really hope that Steam brings not just Valve’s games, but a few hundreds more, I spend more than $150 dollars each month buying Playstation 3 Games and I coud easily buy mac version of those games if they are ported on time, I won’t waste 5 months or more expecting for a games that I can play on any given console or pc.

Apple is more than happy, celebrating the iTunes 10B songs sold milestone, a never-thought approach that validates the iTunes market power. This milestone will put enormous pressure on music labels and will force rivals to change and adjust their strategies, until now, none of them have worked against iTunes.

Selling 10B songs is not a piece of cake, it requires too much work to get things done correctly and with the fiercy rivalry between competing services, it’s even more difficult and challenging to keep a service like iTunes running.

iTunes is the reencarnation of Quicktime done right, but there is a lot of work to be done on the Windows version, it drains the pc resources and the experience is totally different from the mac one.

But there is plenty of time to adjust and tweak a few setting here and there, iTunes is growing faster than Apple itself and with the introduction of Lala.com brain power, we may see a more social oriented iTunes in not time.

You can save your logins to any of these services in your Keychain Access application via Safari, it’s easy to setup, but, but, from time to time it requires you to retype the combination (login/password) to regain access.

I have an access (login and password) for iTunes that is not associated with iChat, but I have a Mac OS access (login and password) that is not linked to iTunes, iChat or nothing else on the same System. I need to access Apple Mail directly with one of the login and password of iTunes, iChat or the System.

For me, this is insane, living in a Facebook Connect or Twitter OATH world, where you can link, access and merge accounts, access blogs, post comments on forums and other services using Facebook or Twitter, or even get login using your Yahoo or Gmail accounts.

The keychain that once helped us gain access to different services without retyping your login/password combination each time is totally outdated, death, useless and out of touch with today synchronization between net services, you may found dangerous to have a master password for all your services, but when time is gold this is the smarter way to work, you don’t need an access for iTunes that doesn’t work on iChat being both Apple’s applications.

Ironically, with an Apple ID you can have access to the One to One service, iTunes and the Apple Store Online but your Apple ID isn’t linked to Facebook, Twitter or any other Social Network.

I would like to have the ability to setup the Keychain and assign myself the right combination for all those logins and passwords in Mac OS X with easy access/control to my Social Network accounts, Gmail, Hotmail and Yahoo.

Can Apple do that? Of course, this is nothing out of reach, but We will need another major OS revision to have something like this inside the Mac OS X.

Update: Lala.com, recently acquired by Apple, uses Facebook Connect for quick and easy access to its service, maybe lala.com puts Apple in touch with today social network interaction.

Of course, Apple hasn’t suffered any market lose against the Palm Pre or the Pixi, but Palm has a big stock of patents of mobile technology that can help Apple achieve better and faster results using those technology without the need to circunvent any Palm patent.

I now, I now, Apple doesn’t need Palm, of course not, but a few hundred patents here and there could help Apple and with the cheap market cap price ($1.3B) compared to Apple ($ 177.4B), it is more than perfect for Apple to swallow it.

It is a perfect match, bringing back some ex-Appler, now Apple-haters, I would like to see it happen… it may a lot of business sense for Apple to get these Palm’s patents (Palm Patents).

But with the freaking control and recent changes in the policy of the AppStore Apple is cutting a big chunk of business and a section that only needed to be controlled by a good Parental Control system, dropping adult content from the AppStore doesn’t help Apple sells more apps, the opposite, adult will find their content in other platforms where the Vatican doesn’t punish them

Adult content, picture, video or whatever you want has been part of our culture, it only needs to be in an exclusive and adult-verified or controlled area.

Please Apple stops being my grandmother, I don’t need this content, but I believe that I am a responsible adult to understand that I can or can’t download or buy this stuff, but dropping it from the store looks like a mother telling their babies that they can watch MTV instead of Playboy. Got it?

Being so, I believe that sooner than later Apple will be forced to drop Google and provide a similar service for all the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad users out there and the perfect fit for this kind of service is TomTom, which can not only help Apple accelerate or grow its mobile business with more robust, people friendly and well-engineered solutions that mix GPS, location-based advertising, weather, parking information and street conditions, transforming the iPhone into a dedicated content provider device for people on the move will not only help Apple fend off Google and Nokia, but create a new market for professionals that have kept away from the iPhone because of its lack of such hardcore solutions.

Apple may not really need to enter in this already crowded market, but this is the only way to keep ahead of the competition, Apple is forced to stay away or come with a more integrated and easy to use solutions or forget completely about this new market and let Google and others eat the candies.

The strange, but true about iChat is that is mandatory to have an AIM account in order to use it or shell out $99 a year for a MobileMe account, but with free alternative like Skype, it seems that somebody has a reality problem at Apple, I won’t compare the video quality of iChat with the same feature provided by Skype, but free is the best feature of any application and the whole accounts creation process in Skype, quick and easy, not credit card or long AIM forms to fill, places Apple in the ice age.

With Facebook, Twitter and may other social networks growing exponentially is almost unbelievable that iChat is totally isolated and while this isolation may guarantee a better integrated product with others Apple applications, it doesn’t happen, today diversity and network flavors force us to have many social applications to interact with friends, families and teammates, but iChat is the only application without this kind interaction, not Facebook or Twitter, not outside connections, instead, you are forced to have Adium, Twitter and iChat to get all bases covered.

A good example of how to master interaction is Adium, which lets you have your friends from Facebook, Yahoo, MSN, GoogleTalk, Jabbers and many others Social Networks in a single window, without any performance or interaction hit. I know Apple can do better than that, like a streaming video application for Facebook that lets your friend use to reach you in iChat, the use of your Twitter, Facebook, MySpace login account to start iChat will be more than perfect, I don’t need to be forced to have an account in AIM just to use iChat, Apple needs to wake up and quickly, this is unbelievable.

With iTunes, the iPod, iPhone and other media devices from Apple is seem almost out of this world that Apple hasn’t embraced the social network interaction in its own applications or even a Skype plugin to provide a better mac experience, to have 3 or 5 applications running is nothing but a waste of productivity and time,

In real world only a few of your friends have macs, while the other has Windows and Linux PCs, people needs to interact with them via the internet and now throught these social networks, with Apple applications is IMPOSSIBLE.

And this is getting so ridiculous that soon you will see how everything will be like a iPhone app, books, magazines and even comics, this trend is the driving force behind the iPhone and the iPod Touch massive adoption, but I didn’t believe that the AppStore has this much diversity, it is almost unbelivable and totally out of control.

Some of them famous for its functions or totally lack of them, but you can find an App for everything, from the Fart App to the iFlipFlow Lite, or from the recently announced NASA sensor to the Baby Shaker, this is totally crazy and almost impossible to believe.

I’ve been tracking with Google Alerts, PRMAC service, Webwire and other Press Release firms, how many new apps you can find everyday and this is more than 300 [only on those media sources], ranging from applications with new features added, new applications and applications to be launched in days, this is out of proportion and could get worse if Apple finally launch the iTablet.

But the success of the iPhone has depended on two factors: the iPhone itself and the AppStore; the AppStore is what’s driving the mass adoption and it’s the bigger advantage over similar smartphones, but recent sour stories from developers about having their applications rejected without a real merit while other worse or similar applications are approved in the AppStore is not helping Apple gain mindshare among hardcore mac users and future iPhone developers. Apple won’t have any problem with casual users, they don’t care how the approval system works, they just need the iPhone to work and it does.

But if you mix the AppStore constant fight with developers, AT&T poor performance in some areas and Apple’s behavior with everything outside the Appledome, then you will have to work hard to stay ahead of those companies offering innovation as their motto.

A quick solution is needed to fix the AppStore Approval Process, but AT&T’s constant call dropping will need more than a streamlining, AT&T will need to invest a lot of green dollars to have a better and faster 3G network everywhere and they better start doing it now, rumors point to an imminent introduction of the iPhone in Verizon network next year.

Regarding Apple’s behavior about everything without Apple’s label… there is not cure, Apple has been arrogance for years, I hope this time doesn’t end up losing the mobile war against Google or somebody else.

While Dell and HP sell a godzillion of netbook, notebooks and everything ending in ~book, Apple earns more from that segment, the profit margin in netbook is minimal and both [HP and Dell] know this, the main reason they are launching pricier, higher margin laptops and the second reason some of those laptops are almost identical to the Apple offering.

Marketshare is worthless if your earning are lower than your smaller rival. Apple has never taken marketshare as a measure of success, the only thing that is really counting for Apple is how much they earn for their mac, iPhone and iPod operations…. everything else is useless right now.

Notice that Nokia sells more mobile phone in a year than Apple will sell in years together, but Apple is more profitable in the mobile business than Nokia, strange, but true.

What I would like to see in this new endeavour by Apple is that they finally see iTunes real social potentials, mixing a few millions people with fresh content, music, videos and lyrics plus the ability to review and recommend tracks to others could help Apple sell another 2 billion tracks, even better, if Apple sells ad space on the new web-based iTunes could get a bigger chunk of the music related advertising dropped in the other Music Social Networks elsewhere.

iTunes vs Web-based iTunes
In an effort to distinguish the former iTunes from the Web-based, Apple should only provide those DRM-free while letting the rest available to the iTunes Store, it is a win-win situation and there is not direct competition, if you want to buy your music from iTunes you can, but if you are traveling and need any track, the faster and easier way is to go to the web-based version and get it, both way is a guaranteed profit for Apple.

But with 100 million register iTunes buyers, Apple can take on any social network any time and get a bigger profit from its operation, but don’t limit iTunes to only music, Apple can place books, movies and any other paraphernalia for sale and reach the whole internet in direct competition with Amazon and Facebook at the same time, because iTunes users are buyers already, not future buyers, a big difference between Facebook’s 300 million users and the iTunes’ 100 millions.

Apple recently bougth Placebase, a map company that offers mapping services for search engines and mobile OS navigation, so the logical thing to do here for Apple is to replace all Google-based map information on Apple’s products and start using the Placebase, in a move that will relegate Google’s technology to Android and clear the space for Apple to negotiate maps related information about businesses and important places. Google loses here.

But what is really more interesting is that Admob, a Mobile advertising company, recently bought by Google, says that Apple approached them before Google, a move that could have placed Apple in direct competition with Google mobile advertising, but that let us know Apple’s intentions, they [Apple] are trying to buy or create a mobile advertising unit to supply ads for thousands of iPhone apps like Admob does. This is for real, anytime soon We will see Apple engaging in a more aggresive move to benefit from the mobile search and advertising on the iPhone. Google is the one to lose here, the iPhone 100,000 apps represent more for Google than its own Android based apps, just 12,000 and Apple wants a piece of this tasty cake.

Apple is or will slowly replace Google from the iPhone and this is natural, the iPhone represent too much for Google, but Google is really busy with its own projects and has done something that Steve Jobs hates, giving Apple a second class-citizen treatment, providing their applications first for Android, then later send them to Apple for approval, something logical from a business standpoint, but ilogical if you take that for Google the iPhone truely represent a lot, as they say it is.

Don’t expect to see too much of Google in the next Apple product, Apple will relegate Google to the search engine, but could even negotiate with Microsoft or Yahoo for a better deal on that area, or worse, Apple can buy Ask.com [my speculation or recommendation here] and replace Google altogether from the iPhone in a move that will generate more direct profit for Apple and a moral loss for Google.

People has ben understimating Apple against Google, but one thing is Apple not entering in any Google market because it doesn’t need it and the other is Apple having a profit or not doing so, it’s a matter of market opportunities and Stevo pride.

And about Google’s candies…. Apple always know how to eat other people’s candies and then later sell it for a lot pricier…. so don’t put all your money on Google against Apple yet.

This is the heart of the Network interaction of the System and how it accesses or lets other accesses its files.

MobileMe

MobileMe is a service from Apple that helps you collect all your critical information, store it in a central server (cloud server) and get it delivered to all your previously subscribed devices. MobileMe synchronizes all your business and personal information over the air, instantly and without hassles. It’s ideal for people on the go that need to have access to their information every second. In this screen you must supply your USERNAME and PASSWORD you set at the MobileMe signing window.

What is MobileMe and how it works?

Account

This is your Account Summary, it shows your account name, your account type, your Mail Storage and iDisk available space.

Sync

In the Sync area you specify what part of your system will be synchronize with your other devices, you select what applications to sync: Calendars, Bookmarks, Contacts, Safari preferences, System Preferences, Mail, Mail Rules Signatures and more.

iDisk

In this section you can monitor your iDisk available space, manage your iDisk public folder, let others access it to Read or to Read and Write, set password for you iDisk folder and turn on and off your iDisk synchronization.

Back to Mac

Here your files and screen shared with your other Back to Mac enabled Macs over the net.

Network

Here you can select your connection type (wireless, Built-in Ethernet, Firewire…), have it automatically setup or set your Location based network settings or better, have your network setup assisted with the Assist Me option that helps you get your network up and running in not time.

Depending on your network type you must supply the local ip address, subnet mask, router information, DNS Server IP and your Search Domains.

Quicktime

In the Quicktime Area you can provide your codes for Quicktime Pro, set how your movies behave when opened, set your Streaming Speed and set the MIME types for your Quicktime to handle.

Setting your MIME correctly will help you get the most out of internet media, because this is the only way to tell your internet media what application will handle it.

If you need to watch Live TV broadcasted using Windows Media Server you must download Flip4mac and go to the MIME section and setup Quicktime as the application that will handle all your Windows Media services, if you failed to do it so you won’t be able to watch you favorite Live TV station on Quicktime.

Sharing

In the Sharing Area you can make your CDs and DVDs available to others, share your Screen, open Access for others to your files, share your printers, setup a Web Sharing for your Intranet or Extranet, provide remote access to your files and folders, setup remote management for your System, make your computer to share or be part of a Xgrid setup and internet sharing that lets others see your computer information over internet.

You must provide privileges for your users, remember that an open network is a place for malicious activities, you must never let your System totally open, if you don’t know how to setup a protected network consult a specialist first, providing full access to your computer may damage your file integrity and compromise your personal data.

MobileMe up and Running

At this year WWDC (2008), Apple retooled the .mac service and renamed it as MobileMe, a syncronization service that will have all your devices updated simultaneaously. Your Mail, Contacts, Calendar, Gallery and iDisk will be on the Cloud for you to access them whenever and whererver you like it. And the syncronization is among multiple devices, your iPhone, iPod Touch, Mac and Windows PC, the most important thing about MobileMe is that it’s an ad-free service.

MobileMe Features:

Push Email

MobileMe Mail pushes new messages to your iPhone automatically and notifies you when they arrive. You’ll instant notification for new email. On your iPhone and iPod touch, it works with the built-in Mail application. It also works with Mail on a Mac and Outlook, Outlook Express, or Windows Mail on a PC. Emails are scanned for viruses.

Push Contacts

With MobileMe Contacts, you have all your address book information at your fingertips. Any change to your Contacts and automatically all your devices will be updated-synchronized, giving you more access and control of your information anytime and anywhere.

Push Mobile Gallery

Mobile Gallery provides a destination for your friends and family, you can upload photos from your computer or iPhone to your Gallery and invite people to visit, download and share their favorites, and even contribute their own. It provides fancy and animated views, mosaic, carousel or slideshow.

Push Calendar

MobileMe pushes your calendar information to your iPhone, iPod touch, Mac, and PC. So you always know where you need to be and when you need to be there. You can make changes on one device and MobileMe automatically updates all your other devices, it works with iCal on a Mac and Outlook on Windows PC.

iDisk

MobileMe provides a virtual disk accessible from anywhere and with every browser on the market, it comes with a 20GB combined email and file storage and can be accessed from your Mac OS X Finder. iDisk is the easier and more reliable way to transport your office or personal files and access them on the road.

Prices and Availabilities

MobileMe is said to be up and running today and can be accessed from Mac and Windows computers with any browser, this technology is ready to use with your iphone and ipod touch too and there is not news about support for other mobile devices. MobileMe is a subscription based service with a price of $99 a year for indivual use with a 20GB of combined email and file storage, 200GB of monthly bandwidth and $149 for a Family Pack (4 members) with 5GB of combined email and file storage, and 50GB of monthly data transfer for each member.

Third parties support is unknown and virus or any thread is under Apple control, but the price could be a roadblock for some mac users that were expecting a cheaper price for the service.

This is the Hardware section of Mac OS X System Preferences, here We will tweak the system to interact with CDs-DVDs, the Display, control how the Keyboard and Mouse behave, install printers and set the audio alerts.

CDs & DVDs

In this option, We assign a function for the System to do when a Blank CD and DVD is loaded, when a Music or Picture CD is inserted We set the application to use it, We can even tell the System what to do if a DVD Movie is loaded.

Displays

In Displays We can change our monitor resolutions, select how many colors the screen should use and even rotate our screen 90º, 180º and 270º. The System provides an automatic Display detector that helps you choose the correct resolution and color to use.

In the Color Tab you can calibrate your Display or choose a Calibration Profile provided by the System. It’s recommended to have your Display calibrated if you work in the Pre-Press, Graphic and Video Production business. Calibrating your Display helps you get a more accurate color information for all your graphic applications. Apple provides Colorsync to help you get the most realistic colors from your computer. Colorsync is used when you calibrate your Displays.

Energy Saver

Energy Saver is used to tell the computer when to go to sleep in order to stop consuming energy while idle, it tells Mac OS X that if the Computer is idle for a X period of time to shut down the Display and put the System to rest until a key or a mouse is pressed. Here We can tell the System to wake up if a network connection is detected, if the modem detects an incoming call, to use the Power Button in order to put the System to sleep and to wake up if a Energy interruption has ocurred.

Keyboard and Mouse

In this area We control the Mouse and Keyboard speed, the double click speed and the delay between clicks and assign our own keyboard combinations to any given function of the System.

Print and Fax

In the Print & Fax area We select the Printer to use, this Printer can be a USB Printer attached to the computer, a IP based printer on a network, a Windows shared Printer, a Bluetooth Printer or a Printer in an AppleTalk network. For the Fax We can use the Internal Modem if your computer has one or a USB based Modem from Apple or any other vendor.

Here We can set the Default Paper Size, check for Print Queue Jobs and Share our Printer going to the Network Printer Sharing option.

Sounds

The System Sounds, here We can assign the Default sound alert, Mute the whole System, control de Volume and assign the Output and Input ports to be used by the System (Line out – Digital out, Line in – Digital in).
